Finishline Print Finishers has boosted its productivity after taking on a B&R Moll Compact folder-gluer for small-format folding.

The 30-staff trade finisher, which is based in Oldham near Manchester and has a turnover of around £2m, took delivery of the machine around two months ago.

Owner Will Kilpatrick told Printweek the circa-£80,000 investment – the company’s first folder-gluer – will automate the finishing of products, including small and miniature boxes, and processes such as double-sided taping that have previously been carried out manually, enabling staff to concentrate on other tasks.

“We were just trying to take out the manual side of it. The machine has been really good, and it certainly helps on the bottlenecks,” he said.

While Finishline Print Finishers had worked with B&R Moll in the past, it also considered various other alternatives, but Kilpatrick said its final decision on the Moll Compact “was a no-brainer – it fitted us, so we went with it”. B&R Moll provided a week of training on the device, which Kilpatrick said went well.

The business also operates two stitching lines, nine folding machines, and kit for die-cutting, PUR and EVA perfect binding, and miniature folding. It has around 2,800sqm space across two factories.

Established in 1998, the company serves printers predominantly based in the North West and the Midlands.
